Elfyn Evans has secured the World Rally Championship crown for Toyota, bringing an end to decades of disappointment and a 25-year drought for British drivers, following a thrilling season closer in Sardinia on Sunday.

The Welsh driver had finished as the championship runner-up on five occasions over the past six years, but finally claimed victory when a decisive Powerstage battle with teammate Oliver Solberg saw the fast-moving Swede lose control and tumble down a bank just two turns before the finish line, while he was on track to win the title.
